I am quite fed up with all the “the doctor has changed, he is rude, he is not caring, he is a douche…”
As for me, I like Twelve a lot, much much better than Eleven and even Ten. In my opinion, The Doctor is not moral in the human’s sense. Some people forget that Doctor is actually not a kind-hearted uncle. He is not human, his way of thinking and sense of moral are not for human to love and worship.
He is somewhat rude, blunt, neglected… He doesn’t have to play saint to be The Doctor. You love some characters because you think they have some virtues that are worthy looking up to, but in my opinion, it doesn’t apply to The Doctor.
The Doctor doesn’t have to be a caring grandpa, he doesn’t have to be a feminist, I don’t even need him to say anyone is important. He is a character of his own, he has all the flaws and the struggles, the conflicts. He is somewhat dark but not evil, he is not moral but not immoral.
Audiences follow his journey and learn the lesson and it doesn’t have to be a moral one, we can enjoy or hate his adventures and decisions and draw the conclusion for our own.
Let’s not forget, who we are to judge an alien who has lived thousand years? Yes, you can judge all the way you want, but frankly does that alien need our judgment? Does he really care?
